It would make sense that they would apply this same attitude when developing Mac OS.

It doesn't have to worry about all the possible devices that might be used inside the computer. This was a major problem with old-era computers. Every time new computers came out, new operating systems had to be written to run on them. Mac OS takes the solution to this problem a step further. Everything in a mac computer is designed to work together as one well-designed product.
